Autostar Power Box

The Powerbox allows downloading new software
to the Autostar without the telescope mount.

"With all the new versions being released from Meade , This is a real back saver"

To download to the Autostar controller requires the Meade 505 cable connector set  which connects the Autostar
controller (RS 232 port)  to your computer (serial port)  It also requires connecting the Autostar to the telescope
mounts HBX port.  This can be inconvenient if your computer is inside and your telescope is not. Here is an simple
solution. A 12 volt power source for the Autostar. The only parts needed are a RJ 45 wall plate ( I purchased this from
a local computer store ) this is the same connection as the HBX port on the Meade scopes ( LX 90 , ETX and DS series)
and a 12 power source. I am using a small rechargeable 12 volt battery pack.
This is a simple project and works fantastic!!!   Just power up the Autostar by connecting to the Powerbox and start downloading. When the Autostar is finished it will beep and restart. After the Autostar has powered back up it will
be scrolling the sun warning. At this point power down & disconnect the Autostar,  Return the Autostar to your mount,
power up, Reset , Enter user data & Train Drives.  I have used the Powerbox for a quite a while without any problems
at all and love it !
Good Luck & Happy Downloading,
Steve

Update: I no longer use an internal battery pack.  I now use a 12 vdc wall transformer.

RJ 45 connector from Radio Shack.
With the tap pointing down and facing the connector as shown the
positive 12 volt  will be the 1'st pin. The last pin to the right is the negative 12volt dc.

The rear of the RJ 45 connector. Only 2 wires are used the + & - wires coming
from a12 vdc wall transformer. I also wired in a simple off/on switch.

Rear of RJ 45 wall plate. These are common computer networking connections.
